The Process Of Building A Granny Annexe

At Family Annexe we understand that building a granny annexe for a loved one can be a big step. You need to trust the people building your new annexe and understand the process.

In this blog, we will cover the step by step process of preparing and building the annexe. We may ask you for information on your space and ask for measurements during this step.

Step One – Phone Consultation

The process of building your perfect annexe starts with a phone call. This is a free friendly chat with a member of our team.

Here we’ll get to know you and discuss what your family needs. One of our friendly experts is on hand to discuss circumstances and get a feel for the kind of annexe you need.

Step Two – Quote and Drawings

After the phone call, you will receive a quote and some drawings. We understand that you want to make an informed decision and we make sure to provide you with as much information as possible.

We will include a detailed breakdown of the cost and payment schedule. A detailed drawing and footprint of your annexe. When and how we will get planning permission. An estimated timeline. The details for our 10-year insurance guarantee.

Step Three – Site Survey

Once we have agreed on a proposal, one of our helpful site managers will come for an onsite look at the space. During this survey well check on the size of your garden as well as the electricity and drainage options.

We will also need to check if building a granny annexe will cause any problems for your neighbours and assess how that be fixed.

Step Four – Finalise Build Spec

After our survey will make any changes needed to the initial design. Once you are happy with the layout, we can then move on to the other details. All of our annexes come fitted out with a  functional kitchen and bathroom, and anything else you may need.

You will get to choose the finishing touches of the annexe. You can choose from our wide range of materials and colours, right down to the kitchen cupboard handles.

Step Five – Planning Permission

The most daunting part of building a granny annexe can be getting the planning permission. Here at Family Annexe, we take all the stress out of this procedure for you.

We obtain the planning permission from your local planning authority using a Householder Application and the ‘Caravan Act’.

We work with some of the best professionals in independent planning to make sure you get the best possible outcome. It can take up to 13 weeks to get planning permission.

Step Six – Building Your Annexe

Once we have agreed on the finalised design and gain the needed planning permission, we can finally start building the annexe. The annexe itself is made at our site. Meanwhile, our team of experts will be laying the groundwork in your garden in preparation for the annexe arriving.

Once the groundwork is complete we can deliver and install your new annexe. It will be installed quickly and carefully so that your loved one can move in right away.

Overall the process of building an annexe can take around sit to seven. The time can vary depending on the size of the annexe and if we have to make any additional groundwork along the way.

We want to make sure your annexe is built to the highest possible standard so we take care to ensure our team of professionals produce the highest quality work.

When our team has finished adding the final special touches that make an annexe a home,  it’s time for the final step. We hand over the keys and your annexe is ready for your loved one to move into right away.

A member of our team will give you a tour of your new annexe and explain how everything works. You can ask as many questions as you need, we want you to feel happy and comfortable using your new annexe.

You can check the product thoroughly and lets us know if there is anything you are unhappy with. Our team here at Family Annexe are more than happy to help you with any problems.
